We did all of our “activities” while we were staying at the condo, and once we were at Grand Wailea we pretty much did not leave other than to walk up and down the beach to the different resorts. We planned it this way because once the kids reached Grand Wailea we knew they would not want to leave the amazing pool area. At this point we returned the car in Kihei. After lunch we drove to Grand Wailea where we would stay for the remainder of the trip. Spent some time walking around on Front St in Lahaina and had a glorious lunch with a gorgeous view of the water at Kimo’s. Well worth the $20 a day in sandwiches for them! We packed up our condo and checked out. We did make our coffee at home after the first morning but we found going to the market gave our kids something to do and a little bit of independence in the mornings so my husband and I could enjoy some quiet time on the patio. Wednesday - walk on the beach and breakfast (again!) at aina market. Headed back to the condo to get out of the sun, and had a chill dinner of grilled steaks on our patio. After the snorkeling tour we did some shopping at Whalers Village. Apparently we missed some dolphins and a whale by a few days. Sea life and coral was not that great to look at but the food, company, and drinks made it worthwhile! Our kids, who had never been snorkeling, loved every minute of it. We did the Lanai sail which took us across from Lahaina to Lanai, as well as another spot in west maui. Tuesday - up and out of the condo by 7:45 for a snorkeling tour with Sea Maui. I don’t really have words to describe it, you just need to see it for yourself :-) unbelievable views! Around 6:00 the parking lot started to get busy so we took a spot right up front for the sunset. Ate the pizzas in the parking lot at the summit and got out to do a couple short hikes close to the summit and visitors center. We were done zip lining around 2:30, and grabbed two pizzas from Kula Lodge for a late lunch. It’s located right before the entrance to the park. We stopped on the way and did a zip line tour with ecotours. It took us about an hour to get to the entrance to the park. Made some pbj’s and packed the cooler (provided by our condo owner) and got in the car around 11am for a road trip to My Haleakalā. Monday - walk on the beach and breakfast at Aina Market again (our kids loved the ham and cheese croissant!). Delicious meal with a table right on the water for a view of the sunset (I made the reservation on opentable as we were driving). Back in the car for a 7pm dinner at Leilani’s on the Beach. Hiked down to Nakelele Blowhole and took some pictures. We pulled off wherever we saw a view we wanted a closer look at. After grilling some burgers for lunch and playing at the pool for a bit we showered and headed up Hwy 30. We went to Times Supermarket - there are probably better equipped stores in the area but we just needed snacks and some steaks/sides for one nights dinner so this served our needs. We let the kids play while we ran across the street to the grocery store. Love that you can walk for a few miles in either direction on the beach! Breakfast at Aina Market which was one building over from us. Sunday - up early (but later than previous trips when our kids were younger), took a walk on the beach walk. The food and drinks were great, but we were exhausted. We loved it! We dropped our luggage, showered, and had a very tired dinner at Duke’s. Second bedroom had two king beds so our kids were able to spread out. Our unit was 343 in the Konea Bldg and was absolutely perfect for our needs. Hopped in the car and headed to Honua Kai. We rented a 4door super basic Jeep from Avis at the airport for $324 for Saturday-Wednesday (didn’t need car the last few days). We travelled Detroit, Madison, Seattle, Maui. Saturday - landed at 4pm after a few hiccups ( flight from Detroit diverted to Madison, WI due to a medical emergency). My husband I travelled with our two kids ages 10 and 12. Hi all! We returned on Saturday from a 1 week trip to Maui and I thought I’d share details to help other families plan.
